Your Yard Sale is not an Antique Store.

I'll come clean and openly admit I enjoy going to garage sales, yard sales, tag sales or whatever "browse-through-my-unwanted-junk" type of sale I happen upon. I'm always on the lookout for some vinyl records, interesting old knick-knacks and, particularly, retro video games from the 90's or older. Sometimes I find cool things. Just today I paid four dollars (talked down from seven) for an unused copy of Elephun. Why would I buy a game for children? It's an elephant that sneezes butterflies. Why don't I have a room full of them.

Those butterflies look delighted to have partied in an elephant's trunk.

Five Interesting Interpretations of Great Songs

There are plenty of good songs, but very few of those become great songs. They are the ones that go beyond being just music.  They become part of the eclectic soundtrack to our lives. But therein lies a problem. What happens when we need a little more variety and contributions from the likes of Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus just aren't making the cut? Why not just take those familiar tunes you know and love and listen to them performed in unorthodox - sometimes downright bizarre - ways.

Electric Dreams: The Movie DVD Has Forgotten

D.C. Cab, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, My Bodyguard, Just One of the Guys, Midnight Madness:   That was just five examples of semi-obscure 80's movies that have made the leap to DVD over the years.  But why no love for Electric Dreams?  It's a fun, music-filled, geeky amalgamation of science fiction, technology and romance.  With our current economic climate, rising gas prices, depletion of the ozone layer, and lower standardized test scores, we can't afford NOT to have this classic 80's flick on DVD.

Lazy Resolutions for Dummies

The dawn of a brand new year is a time when many of us take stock of our lives and vow to make changes for the better. While admirable, many set the bar too high and fall back into bad habits. Not me though. I went ahead and made resolutions with that same metaphorical "bar" resting comfortably 30 feet below sea level. You won't find any "lose weight" or "quit smoking" promises to myself; only simple goals that can be easily reached. Bang! Instant self-esteem boost.

Worst. Local Commercials. EVER!

Advertising on television is still the best way to get your brand out to a captive audience (the ones without DVRs at least). A lot of research, time and money goes into all of those memorable ads you talk about the day after the Superbowl. This post is not about those commercials. It's about the local spots you see outside the peak viewing hours, cheaply made and horribly acted. They'd be forgettable if they weren't so ludicrously bad. Observe:

Thanks Arthur

Young William - you know who you are - you have uncovered the greatest treasure YouTube has to offer. If you found a vending machine that dispensed naked ladies three for a penny, it still wouldn't top this nine second piece of excellence. Let's have a look:

Logos and Idents and Bumpers - Oh My!

Television is a medium that spends its entire existence doing nothing more than trying to grab your eyes and ears by its balls. It is the attention-whore in your living room that won't be ignored. With that said, it should come as no surprise that even the short station identifications, program bumpers and production logos have become these memorable orgies of sounds and visuals. Some of them tried so hard, that they're practically unnerving. This is especially true to young children for whom any strange noise can either be a menacing robot attack or the "NBC Night at the Movies". These short animated idents I grew up watching were so outlandish or eerie that they're fascinating. And apparently, I'm not the only one who reminisces about these things judging by how easy it is to find them on video sites .

Need Something To Upload on YouTube? How About Another "Lazy Sunday" Parody?

So you signed up for YouTube but you're tired of just being a voyeur. What can you upload that'll propel you and maybe your friends to "internet pseudo-celebrity" status? How about you bust out a camera and make another "parody" of the classic SNL Digital Short "Lazy Sunday"? Why not? There's only about 500 of them up on YouTube already and finding the real one is like that classic "Where's Waldo?" when he hides himself among ten thousand impostors. In other words: fun!

McDonald's Turns 50!

Ray Kroc, a milkshake mixer salesman, had envisioned a restaurant chain where people can eat burgers with minimal amounts of beef served quickly by snarling cashiers earning minimum wage. That idea turned into McDonald's – the place where you can find happiness packaged with a toy and a small drink.
